'God's Way is the Most Fun Because it's not Tied to Shame': Sadie Robertson Talks About Faith & Marriage

Former Duck Dynasty star, Sadie Robertson is hoping to encourage her fans to follow God's path as they navigate dating in today's society.

Robertson and her new husband Christian Huff got married in November after nine months of dating.

Both in their early 20's, the young couple recently opened up to fans about their impure past but shared that they let faith lead their relationship when they met each other.

Robertson says she felt shame in past relationships, but never in this one because they did it "God's way."

She told fans in an Instagram post, "I am not the poster child of purity. We both had a past, but when we met we made it clear that we desired to see what God’s plan was."

"Why am I saying all this? Because I care about you," she continued. "I don't want you all to only see examples of couples living all fun and be fooled into thinking's God's way isn't as fun or attractive as the worlds. God's way is the most fun because it's not tied to shame."

I see a lot of q’s & comments on the idea of marriage. “Why get married?” “Why only one person?” “I’ve only seen bad ex. - why would I want that?” Or comments like “I have to get married for my life to start.” “I’m desperate for marriage so I’ll settle for anyone!” Its not shocking that there is a lot of confusion on the idea of it. Genesis 3 we see that there is an enemy. An enemy that comes after Gods designs and makes us question why that would be better than our own ideas for our life. He comes after our image with insecurity. Our confidence with comparison. Our faith with fear. so why not our idea of marriage? In Genesis 2 marriage was created so that we might have a helper in this life. “It’s not good for man to be alone.” That we would be together, naked, & feel no shame. People ask how do you know when someone’s the one? I have heard it said and I’ll repeat it - ask yourself is that person helping you. Helping you get closer to God and be a better person? Well, that seems too simple sadie? Yup, that’s just the beauty of Gods original design. To have someone to help. Then comes Genesis 3, the enemy shows up and spoke words that made us confused and we fell into sin and with sin - shame entered. I am not the poster child of purity. We both had a past, but when we met we made it clear that we desired to see what Gods plan was. We wanted to see Genesis 2. We let that desire override our fleshly desires. I have felt shame in dating relationships when I was doing it my way - i did not feel shame when i did it Gods way. Gods plan does not produce shame. Think about that in whatever relationship you are in. Why am I saying all this? Because I care about you. I don’t want you all to only see ex. of couples living all fun and be fooled into thinking’s Gods way isn’t as fun or attractive as the worlds. Gods way is the most fun because it’s not tied to shame. This is not to make couples feel bad if they haven’t been on the right path. I was there! I say this bc my biggest following is 18-25 year olds. I know you’re right in the thick of this struggle. I hope to just share the truth I’ve learned on relationship original intention.

She notes that Genesis chapter two makes it clear that marriage was designed so that people can have "a helper" in their lives.

"'It's not good for man to be alone.' That we would be together, naked, & feel no shame," Robertson said. "People ask how do you know when someone's the one? I have heard it said and I'll repeat it – ask yourself is that person helping you. Helping you get closer to God and be a better person?"

The 23-year-old shared that she is more confident in herself, not because of her own being, but because of her faith in God.

Robertson is also a New York Times best-selling author of the 2014 book about faith and Christian values titled “Live Original.”  In 2018, she released a sequel to her first book titled “Live Fearless.” In February of this year, she released her third book “Live: Remain Alive, Be Alive at a Specified Time, Have an Exciting or Fulfilling Life.”
