A God Idea Is a Great Idea

Tammy Bedolla loved to bake, and she always dreamed of owning her own restaurant. Shortly after marrying her husband Martin, she opened her own Mediterranean bistro in 2018.

Tammy says: "It's something that came naturally. God gives you a gift, and some people can tell a really good story. Some people can bake a really good cake, y'know? And this was my gift. When you find out something is your gift, you want to expound on it."

For a couple of years, the restaurant was successful. Then COVID hit, and the business came to a standstill.

Tammy recalls: "I worried about if I was [going to] lose my dream and lose my business. How am I [going to pay] the electric bill? How am I [going to] pay the lease? How am I [going to] pay the water?"

Martin remembers: "I was more worried about her wellbeing because it was a lot of pressure."

The couple prayed for God to supply, and they continued to tithe, a principle they learned from watching The 700 Club.

Tammy adds: "I continued to give not only my 10% but up and above that. I just believe that whenever you bless someone, you're going to be blessed in return. And that's not why I do it. I want to give because I want to please Him."

Tammy continued to look for ways to earn income through her business. Even though the restaurant doors were closed, she advertised on social media and sold goods from her car. Quickly, her food was in demand.

Tammy reports: "And it was a great blessing. I was able to pay every bill and not only make a profit but to be able to make a margin of income extra and over and above."

When the lockdown lifted, Tammy, with Martin helping out, reopened the bistro. They were successful in no time.

Tammy said: "I started selling birthday cakes, anniversary cakes, and I had no idea what God was about to do."

In August 2022, Tammy closed the bistro and launched a new business, 'Tammy's Cake Babies.' Two months later, she competed in 'The Greatest Baker,' making it to the quarter-finals. Since then, her income has doubled. The Bedollas point to God's principles.

Tammy states: "He says, 'Give, and it'll be given back to you, shaken down, pressed together, and running over,' and we can believe for it."

Martin says: "I'm giving because I feel in my heart that it's love. It's love that you're giving."

Tammy notes: "You can trust God with your finances. You can take that to the bank."

Martin concludes: "He encourages us to give, to be givers, because, well, He gave Jesus. He gave His life for us. So that's the most important thing. So, I mean, really, God owns everything. He just wants to see where our heart's at in giving."

I Asked Jesus to Fix My Heart

Lihao has been an aspiring author since he was 10.

He explains, “I started writing about a boy who always overcame his enemies.  There was a lot of hope in my stories, which gave me hope.”

Lihao was born with a hole in his heart. His mother abandoned the family, leaving his father to raise Lihao alone.

“His colds were much worse than other kids’, his father says.  “He coughed and coughed, and his heart beat really hard.  He was like an old man who couldn’t catch his breath.  It was difficult to watch.”

Lihao adds, “My heart hurt really bad, like a big stone pressing on it.”

Mr. Song worked long hours in construction.  Whenever possible, he researched remedies and went to the mountains to get herbs he thought might cure Lihao’s heart.  But nothing worked, and Lihao continued to get worse.

“The larger the hole got, the more pressure was on his heart, and the more pain,” declares Mr. Song.

“Sometimes in PE class, my heart beat really fast, like a needle was piercing me,”
Lihao shares.  “I felt dizzy, and my eyes got hot.  I covered my chest and lay on the ground.  My classmates laughed at me.”

Sometimes, he got pneumonia.

“He looked awful.  He looked like he was dead,” Mr. Song recalls.  “His lips got blue.  I was scared, so I took him to the hospital.  A doctor had me sign a critical notice.  He said that if Lihao didn't get surgery, he might not live to be 20 years old.  But the surgery was very expensive and there was no way for me to ever afford it.  The news felt like a building crashing down on me.”

Lihao says, “I was hot, then cold, and I couldn't catch my breath.  The doctor put oxygen in my nose.”  He recalls, “I have a friend who also had heart disease and he died of a heart attack.  I was worried I’d die, just like him.”

Through it all, Lihao continued to write.

He remembers, “My hands shook and my handwriting was crooked, but I thought to myself, if I can write more, I will.  Writing helped me escape my pain.”

He also prayed.

“Some friends told me about Jesus,” Lihao shares.  “I believed Jesus could help me, and I asked him to take away my heart disease.”

Then a doctor told Mr. Song about Operation Blessing, and you helped make heart surgery possible.

“Lihao’s illness is cured,” exclaims Mr. Song.  “Now he can run like a normal child. Thank you all for your concern and support.”

“I can jump and race with my classmates,” exclaims Lihao.  He concludes, “Now, I write about how Jesus encourages and helps people overcome hard times.  And when I get older, I want to be a part of Operation Blessing and help people like you helped me.”

Freedom from the Crushing Weight of Debt

Jason and Afi Ruel love to go on outdoor adventures most of all, they love gardening.

Afi shares, “I see a garden like that small seed, try God and see and He'll open up the garden and you'll have a huge yield.”

Afi was always a consistent tither and maintained a strict budget with minimal debt. However, Jason was the total opposite. In 2015, Jason relocated from Rhode Island to Virginia to work at a new tv station. When he got ready to sell his home it was only worth half of what he paid for it. So, Jason chose to rent to a friend.

Jason recalls, “That's a lot of stress, a lot of nights and trying to figure out how am I gonna do this? My prayers were mostly, Lord, get me through this.”

By 2018, Jason’s tenant stopped paying rent for a time, forcing him to carry two mortgages. With home repairs, and other bills, Jason’s debt grew to around $100,000!

Jason says, “I had built up this financial house of cards that it felt like if there was just a little bit of a wind, it was just gonna blow apart.”

To make extra money, Jason drove for rideshare companies, and did freelance wedding and commercial videographer gigs. After 7 ½ months the Rhode Island home sold at a loss.   Then in 2019, Jason started going to church. At one of the men’s groups one of its members challenged him to tithe.

Jason shares, “I said to myself, I really believe this. I'm just going to do it.”

A few months later, Jason says God led him to put his Virgina house on the market. He made $50,000 and used the profit to pay off several loans while continuing to tithe. He also met and started dating Afi, a lieutenant in the US Navy. Afi was a tither. In August 2021, they married. Shortly after, Jason received a new job offer. It came with a 25% pay increase.

Jason recalls, “And I knew at that moment that my debt was gone. It was like breathing for the first time in years. That blessing came from God. That was no doubt.”

Today, Jason and Afi are happily married with zero debt. As a couple, they are currently giving 12% of their income annually. They want to encourage others that God is no respecter of persons, He simply honors obedience and principals.

Afi shares, “He's always looking for people He can trust. People who are going to consistently  apply those principles so that He can say, ‘This is what I can do now, are you gonna follow Me?’”

Jason says, “If He is asking that of you. It's not because He wants to harm you. He wants to see you do better things. Just step out, even if it's just a little bit.”

Run! Saved by a Safe Room

Luba explained, “The siren sounded, it felt different. A whistling noise as if something was falling from the sky. It felt very close. We heard the sound, and my husband says, ‘Run!’ We dropped everything. I left my coffee, and we ran.”

Seconds later, a Hamas rocket crashed through the adjacent room destroying many of their belongings and rendering their apartment unlivable.

“My husband had to force the door to open. And then this sharp, black smoke,” said Luba. “The kids were scared; I was shaking all over. Everything went flying, everything that was in these two rooms was damaged. The only room that was fine was the shelter, where we were hiding.”

A gaping hole consumed one room while shrapnel damaged the entire apartment. It was a miracle the family of 6 survived.

Luba’s husband, Anatoly, said, “This is our safe room, if it wasn't for this room, we might not have made it out.”

Anatoly and Luba are immigrants from Ukraine who settled in Sderot. On October 7th, the family lost many of their belongings and had to find temporary housing and for months

they lived out of boxes and slept on air mattresses. Luba turned to a CBN partner, Rina, who had helped her when she was a new immigrant.

Luba said, “Many thanks to Rina. She got me through the many things I was worried about.”

Rina reached out to our CBN Israel Victims of Terror department to see if CBN could help.

Luba wondered, “The children's beds, the furniture. It was a big expense. How would we pay for it? How are we going to figure this out? What should we do?”

CBN Israel provided Luba’s family financial assistance that covered the purchase of new furniture and helped them get a sense of home.

Luba said, “It was thanks to your organization that we were able to buy these things, bring the kids back home, and give them their own room back. It was important for them.”

Thanks to your generosity, CBN Israel also provided assistance that covered the purchase of a new computer for the kids after their room was destroyed by the rocket impact.

“It gave us some hope, a relief in our hearts. It felt wonderful knowing there are people who care. It was so important,” said Luba. “I went through many painful and difficult moments in my life. Your help is a big bright light in this situation.”
