All She Did Was Ask for Healing

Semi-retired nurse, Rebecca Kosko, was a healthy, active 62-year-old, when she felt her heart starting to flutter in early January of 2023. She says, “I was trying to not stress out, but at the same time in my career as a nurse, I've seen people with irregular rhythms and my first thought is, ‘okay, do they have a heart block? What else is going on? Are they really getting ready to have a heart attack?’ I was concerned about it but extremely prayerful.”

Adding to her concerns, her husband, Jerry had been recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Rebecca recalls, “I needed to be strong for him. I needed to be able to go through this with him. And how could I do that if was having all these funky rhythms going on?”

After two weeks with no improvement, Rebecca went to an urgent care. An EKG revealed it was premature ventricular contractions – or PVC – causing her irregular heartbeat. From her medical background she says, “If this continues, it can cause a heart attack. It can cause bad supply to all your organs. It can cause a backup. It can cause your heart to have, insufficient flow back to your lungs so you can cause oxygen problem. And I’m like, ‘gosh darn it, now I have to do something about this.'”

Two weeks later she met with a cardiologist who confirmed the diagnosis. He scheduled a stress test for March 2nd to determine the best course of treatment. Rebecca says, “It could be a shock to try and get the rhythms back in line. It could be medications, it could be potentially surgery, if there's a blockage. Any of those type of things. Or, Lord forbid, that maybe I had heart damage that I didn't know about.”

In the meantime, Rebecca continued to pray and trust God for her healing. She recalls, “I don't think I was ever fearful, but it was like, ‘okay, Lord, I don't understand this.’ I know my path is not to be done, but I also know that we had some family history of bad hearts and bad things like that. My father passed away early from complications with diabetes and congestive heart failure. So, I knew that there were things that could go wrong.”

One thing that has always encouraged Rebecca is The 700 Club. She enjoys the testimonies and praying with the hosts as they pray for viewers. On March 1st, the day before her stress test, she was watching the show when host, Ashley Key, had a word of knowledge Rebecca knew at once was for her. Ashley prayed, “I just believe somebody’s watching with a severe heart condition and I believe God is healing of you...of this heart condition right now in Jesus’ name. I believe there’s a lot of heart palpitations because of this and it kind of takes your breath away when that happens and I believe God is touching you right now as you’re laying your hand on your chest over your heart, God is healing your heart right now in Jesus’ name.”

Rebecca recalls, “And my eyes got big, and I threw my hands in the air and I said, ‘I'm claiming that, that's mine right now in the name of Jesus.’ I kept checking there was no more irregularities at all. Everything totally settled down and there was nothing happening after that. And I started laughing and crying. It was just, I smiled and laughed, and rejoiced and praised and I knew that that was mine.” As far as her stress test was concerned, Rebecca says, “I was excited to go see the doctor the next day to go on the treadmill just to prove it to the doctor and everybody else that this is what happened and got healed me.”

Rebecca had no problems during the test. She says when her cardiologist came in with the results, he looked confused. She says, “He looks at the results and the treadmill and he looks at me, he goes, ‘this is fine. You're fine.’ And the assistants say, ‘well actually look here. Here's her Holter monitor that's wrong. That here is her echo that shows all the, the irregularities and everything that's on.’ And he goes, ‘I don't know about that, but you're fine.’ And he goes, ‘I'm just telling you, now you have an excellent cardiac prognosis. There's nothing wrong with you.’”

Rebecca has had no further issues with her heart and was able to care for Jerry through his successful cancer surgery and recovery. Both say that through it all, their faith has been strengthened, and they’re grateful for God’s healing care. Rebecca says, “God saw me, God saw my heart and my need for His healing and I was worthy. And that in the midst of all the big things in the world, He still saw me. And that's why I was so excited about that. He cares about the little things He cares about everything that's going on in your life. In the midst of it, the life, the life dramas, the life hurts, the pains, the things that we all suffer. That He's there. All you have to do is ask. All you have to do is ask for healing.”
