After big wins in this week's off-year elections, Democrats are now facing a big blow in the 2024 elections.

West Virginia Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin will not seek re-election.

"What I will be doing is traveling the country and speaking out to see if there's an interest in creating a movement to mobilize the middle and bring Americans together," the centrist Democrat announced.

Manchin says the polarizing political climate is exhausting Americans but that he will fight to unite the middle.

The West Virginia senator's announcement opens the door for Republicans to pick up a seat in the battle to control the Senate.

He was the only remaining Democrat holding a statewide office in a state that has turned red in recent years.
