Kenneth Bae Appeals to US to Secure Release
09-08-2014
Kenneth Bae, the Korean-American missionary imprisoned in North Korea, appealed to the U.S. government Monday to secure his release.
Bae, a former tour guide operator in North Korea, is serving 15 years of hard labor for what North Korea calls crimes against its state.
Bae told reporters he committed "anti-government acts" and apologized.
He said his problem can be solved if the North Korean and U.S. governments work together.
Analysts say North Korea probably coached Bae and only allowed him to speak because they want the United States to provide foreign aid to boost its struggling economy.
