Unexpectedly Healed from Knee Pain

Mary recalls, “I had just put clothes in the dryer and I turned around and I hooked my big toe on my left foot under the edge of the rug. That caused me to trip and when I went down. I fell in the floor on my weight, on my right knee and it was really painful.”

It was December of 2021 when retired customer service rep, Mary Fitzgerald, fell. She was alone and couldn’t move. Mary shares, “I didn't know if I'd torn some tissue or the extent of the damage, but I knew the pain was really bad and I was scared to move.”

Despite the pain, Mary managed to get to her car and drive herself to the ER. Ex-rays showed she had a bruised bone and torn ligaments. They gave her pain meds and told her to follow up with an orthopedic doctor. By now, her husband Jerry had arrived and drove her home. Jerry shares, “To see her on crutches and using a cane and a walker was hard. It was hard to see that because I knew it was taking away of her freedom.”

Mary recalls, “I couldn't do my daily things, chores in the house or even drive or get out of the house. I am an active person and that was really hard for me.” Despite physical therapy and pain meds, nothing worked. Jerry, who works at the Newport News shipyard did everything he could to comfort his wife of 15 years.

Mary says, “And there were times when it got so hard to function that he would just come and hug me or pray over me.”

On the advice of an orthopedic surgeon, Mary underwent knee replacement surgery in February 2022. For ten months she endured limited mobility and excruciating pain. Even after receiving a series of nerve blockers, she was unable to take care of her husband or do the things she most loved to do. With no other options doctors scheduled her for a procedure to burn the nerves in her knee.

Mary remembers, “It was becoming pretty depressing. I was beginning to think this was how the rest of my life was gonna be with this leg.”

Jerry says, “We had to pray that God would strengthen her, that He would encourage her, that He would increase her faith, and we had to pray that God would strengthen me.”

Then on December 30th, of that same year, the Fitzgerald’s sat down to watch the 700 Club as they often did. During the prayer time they heard Gordon Robertson say, “Someone else..you are having problems with your right knee. There is a click in it and a catch. God is able to restore. You weren't even praying. You're kind of wondering, ‘Is that for me?’ Yes, it is for you. Do what you could not do before. Begin to move that knee and receive healing into that joint right now.”

Mary shares, “And I said, 'That is for me.' I grabbed my knee and I prayed with Gordon. And when I stopped praying I could bend my leg and I jumped up and I'm just praising God because I had no pain for the first time in a year.”

The first thing Mary did was jump on her elliptical! Jerry shares, “I knew that God had done it. I knew that this was real. God had completed a healing in her leg.”

Mary continues to be pain free and doing all the things she loves. She and Jerry are grateful to God for his healing touch. Jerry says, “It’s such a blessing because we are able to get out and do the things that we used to do, the things we love.”

Mary says, “God is faithful. God is good. Just always pray and know that God is gonna heal you and God can heal you.”
