NBA Coach’s Game Plan for Financial Success

Jim Boylen has had an exciting career in sports. At one point, he was head coach of the Chicago Bulls. Today, he’s part of the Indiana Pacers coaching staff.

“I’ve been a part of a lot of winning,” he exclaims. “I've been with what, six NBA teams, in Indiana twice. So, really seven.”

After his father left when he was eight, his mother taught him about tithing and encouraged Jim to begin giving to CBN.

“She made the word her source, you know, not the world. She would have the envelopes from CBN and put 10 bucks in here, put 20 bucks in here. So, I kind of learned from her. It’s one thing to give 10% when you have a lot, it’s different thing when you give 10% of your income when you don’t. That example was powerful,” he says. He adds, “I started tithing at a young age, trying to honor God the fruits of your hard work.”

When Jim got married, he wanted to set the example of following the Lord in his home, so he and his wife started tithing together. That year, Jim won his second NBA championship as an assistant coach, and the following year, his salary jumped 400%.

He explains, “I think a lot of it has to do with the grace that I received from tithing. I really felt like the Holy Spirit's with you when you’re operating the right way. You have a better feel for how to live your life when your tithing's in order.”

As Jim made more, he wanted to give more. So, when he had the opportunity to support CBN’s Superbook, he jumped on it.

“When you have young kids now, it’s really hard to find content for them to watch,” he shares. “So, Superbook just made sense to me. You can put that on for them. They can watch it, and it's so good, and it's so real, and it's so positive.”

When he heard about the work CBN does in Israel, he knew he had to be a part of that, too. Another thing Jim likes about CBN is the prayer support he’s experienced first-hand.

“They will call you, pray with you,” he states. “I had great support from CBN. They really help you and give it back to you. And I'm really thankful for that.”

Today, Jim continues to give to CBN and encourages others to tithe and give.

“You’re honoring God. You’re honoring his word,” Jim declares. He concludes, “CBN, the programs they have, touch me. There's no better steward of your money than CBN."
