Iran Frees Cargo Ship after 'Constructive Dialogue'
Iran has reportedly released the Maersk Tigris, a cargo ship it seized in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Iran nine days ago.
Iranian forces seized the Marshal Islands-flagged vessel after firing warning shots across its bridge on April 28, detaining the ship and its crew.
The seizure stemmed from a complaint by a private Iranian company.
But the Danish shipping company Maersk Line insists its chartered container ship carried no "special cargo" such as military equipment.
"The release follows a constructive dialogue with the Iranian authorities, including the Ports & Maritime Organization, and the provision of a letter of undertaking in relation to the underlying cargo case. We will continue our dialogue with the aim to fully resolve the cargo case," a statement by the Maersk Line read.
