Biden Meets with CEOs and Labor Leaders to Discuss Rebuilding the Economy
On Monday, Joe Biden continued plans for transition meetings with labor leaders and corporate chiefs to discuss economic recovery. He said Congress needs to come together and pass another coronavirus relief package.
Biden said the nation needs to contain the virus first in order to revitalize the economy and "build our country back and better."
Also on Monday, Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) met virtually with chief executives from General Motors, Target, and Microsoft along with union leaders to talk about ways to boost the economic recovery.
Biden called it an "encouraging meeting." They said "despite our different perspectives, we can work together to reach common ground, ensuring workers and businesses can operate safely" while "rebuilding the economy."
"We all agreed we want to get the economy back on track. We need our workers back on the job by getting the virus under control," Biden said. "We are going into a very dark winter, things are going to get much tougher before they get easier. That requires sparing no effort to fight COVID so that we can open our businesses safely, resume our lives, and put this pandemic behind us."
Biden and Harris spoke as President Trump, who has not conceded the election, tweeted Monday "The radical left Democrats, working with their partner, the fake new media, are trying to steal this election. we won't let them!"
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the executive director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, warned over the weekend that delay in a presidential transition could delay life-saving coronavirus vaccine preparations.
