Finding Shelter in a War Zone

On a typical day in Israel, the Shalva National Center would have a thousand or more disabled children come for therapy. After the war broke out, they opened their doors as the Shalva National Crisis Response Center.  

An employee with Shalva National Crisis Response Center said, “And particularly with the help of CBN, we've been able to run a whole new emergency campaign.”

Hundreds of Israelis have shelter thanks to the center, and they have the capacity to serve up to a thousand more evacuees.  

The same Shalva employee said, “We always think we're at capacity, and then new programs come along and somehow, we find a way to make it work.”

Edin Boarding School Principal said, “I'm the principal of the Edin Boarding School. The whole kibbutz has become a military zone, so we had to find an emergency solution and we were offered to come to Shalva. It's been really, really comforting and hospitable to come here.”

One recipient said, “Whatever we need, they're here for us. We know that our basic needs are met.”

Another Shalva employee said, “I think that Shalva’s role has been a game changer for these families.”

“We're there to do everything we can to facilitate their being here, and it was very traumatic for them,” commented a Shalva employee. “But it's amazing to see at this point how they have come back to life.”

“Many of our families and our staff here at Shalva actually are dealing with situations where at least one family member who's actually serving on the front lines, so we're not fighting this war on our own. That’s been really remarkable, and I know that the contribution from CBN and all of your supporters has made a significant difference,” an employee said.

“We're working very hard with our friends to help fund this, and the cost is astronomical,” said an employee. “CBN has become significant partners in Shalva and now, in time of war, they've upped the ante and continued to help us in most meaningful and significant ways. For donors of CBN, I can only say that every dollar you want to put towards a humanitarian cause that is not just touching lives, but impacting and changing lives, this is one of those places.”
