From Certain Death to Thriving Baby Boy

The Qians loved to hear their baby Runjia cry, the louder, the better. They believed it was a good sign. “An old man had said this shows that a child has great lung capacity and must be healthy,” explained Mrs. Qian. However, it turned out that Runjia was not healthy at all. Tests showed that he had serious heart complications.

His mother remembered, “He had two huge holes in his heart. He had severe pulmonary hypertension and could suffocate at any time. But he was so lively before.” Meanwhile, he came down with pneumonia and was admitted to ICU. “The doctor gave us a critical notice,” Mrs. Qian shared. “It said, ‘The patient's condition is getting worse and may be life-threatening. Family members, please be prepared.’”

Mr. Qian added, “He had to stay in the hospital for observation. If he made it three months, then they could operate. I didn’t want to sleep because the next day, he might be gone. My wife and I might never hug him again. I told him, ‘Be brave. You have to fight this disease.’ I wanted to teach him to walk and play. But there seemed to be no tomorrow for him.”

The couple anxiously waited to see if their son would survive. Mrs. Qian recalled, “He was being kept alive by oxygen and almost in a trance. I felt hopeless. Three months felt like years.”

Mr. Qian said, “I could feel him saying, ‘Daddy, help me. My heart hurts. I don't want to die.’ But there was nothing I could do.”

Runjia made it through his three-month observation period, and it was finally time to operate. However, the Qians could not afford it. Doctors told CBN about Runjia’s critical condition, and we made it possible for him to receive surgery.

“CBN volunteers shared God with us and prayed for my baby. They assured us that he was blessed by God and would be safe,” Mr. Qian said.

Mrs. Qian exclaimed, “Runjias operation went well. He has a good appetite now and is always full of energy.” Mr. Qian added, “Sometimes, I can't keep up with him.”

“Now he is truly a healthy baby,” concluded Mrs. Qian. “Thank you to the CBN donors. We have a happy ending now, all because we met CBN.”
