Are You Management Material?

In 2010, Nick, Carla, and their daughter moved to Tennessee, where Nick built and managed a new automotive supplier plant.

Carla, also in the automotive industry, had earned her MBA debt-free and negotiated multi-million-dollar supply contracts. While she shifted to working remotely, the growing demands of a high-paying career began to feel less rewarding.

Carla remembers: "As I was praying about whether I should stay at home, I felt in my heart that was the way the Lord was leading me and what he was telling me."

Despite losing 40% of their income, Nick and Carla never wavered in their tithing.

"God had blessed us and would continue to bless us if we followed his principles of tithing," Carla concluded.

In January 2016, Nick called Carla from his car with a message she hadn't expected: he was coming home early.

Nick recalls: "I said, well, don't be surprised when I show up at home in half an hour. Uh, I just lost my job. She said:" 'What?'

Cara says: "I think the biggest fear was ruining or losing everything that we had worked so hard to build."

With no income and a severance package that would only last a few months, Nick and Carla turned to prayer and trusted God's provision.

Nick remembers: "The biggest fear for me besides, obviously, taking care of the family, you know, positions that I had been elevated to through the prior 20 years are not growing on trees. So, it was like: 'hmm, I may not be able to replace that income.'"

The couple remained committed to tithing through it all.

Carla adds: "And we knew that we could trust."

Within two months, Nick found a job, but it was well below his previous salary and experience. Later that year, a better opportunity developed with a leading company that included a year-end bonus.

Nick says: "And they offered me a position that was, um, better compensation; so that year, I would venture to say that we made 25% more income than at any point in our life."

Then, in 2023, an unexpected reconciliation with the longtime mentor that had laid him off opened a new door for Nick—a position overseeing North American operations for a global company.

Nick adds: "I knew I couldn't carry that, uh, that, uh, bitterness towards him. So, you know, I reached out first, and lo and behold, we were working together again."

That renewed partnership led to a 25% jump in salary. The Proctors credit this to their faithfulness in giving and tithing. One place they support is CBN.

Carla reports: "I think they are all wonderful, whether it's Operation Blessing or Superbook or getting clean water to families and remote villages. I feel moved by all of it. I, I feel happy to support all of it."

The Proctors believe that tithing and giving are about stewardship, and through their generosity, they've seen God's faithfulness time and again.

Carla says: "I do believe that tithing is key to financial blessing because it's God's word. It's His direction to us."

Nick concludes: "We don't do it to receive, uh, we do it because we like to do it. We're supposed to do it. We're stewards of God's money, and, you know, we, we treat it as such."

“What Good Is a Child Like That?”

Norie, who is a single parent in the Philippines, doesn’t like taking her daughter out in public.  3-year-old Shameber was born with club feet.

Norie explained, “People said to me, ‘Oh my, you shouldn't have any more children.’ Or, ‘What good is a child like that when she can’t even walk normally?’”

Norie's dream is for Shameber to receive an operation to correct the condition. But she earns only 5 dollars a day. That, she said, makes her dream impossible to achieve.

“I said, ‘Why are your feet turn out like this? Why did it have to happen to us when we're struggling so much?’” said Norie.

Then, thanks to you, Operation Blessing met Shameber and her mom and we paid for her to receive the Ponseti treatment method using casting and a minor surgery to realign her feet. After treatment and some PT, Shameber’s feet are back in the correct position and she’s able to walk and jump and play like other kids.

Norie exclaimed, “I want to shout because my little girl is finally well.  I'm so happy for the changes you made in her life. Thank you.”

Panic Attacks No More!

Casey and Jen Washington struggled to make ends meet shortly after they got married in 2011. By 2014, they accrued a mounting credit card debt of $50,000.

We were roughly $10,000 in debt from the wedding and the honeymoon.” Casey stated. “We were putting all living expenses on credit cards so just right off the bat, we started off our marriage in debt.” “It was very slow at the beginning,” Jen expressed, “but then after that is when it really snowballed.”

Casey kept most of the debt hidden from Jen and started stock trading on the side. However, it only pulled him into a deeper hole, financially and mentally.

“I was consumed with waking up at 4:00AM stock trading.” Casey said. “I was consumed with getting myself out of this mess that I created, it was taking all attention away from my family.”

Casey developed severe anxiety and suffered from a serious panic attack that put him in the hospital. With Jen and his dad at his side, he disclosed the debt.

“Laying all of this out there that I've been trying to deal with myself.” Casey spoke. “I knew we couldn't keep going down the same path we were going.” Jen expressed. “I knew we couldn't be as careless when it came to spending on the little things. We had to be more intentional on what we spent money on and on what we needed versus wanted.”

The following Sunday, they went to church where the pastor asked those to stand who needed healing. Casey stood up and made the decision that he was going to start seeking God for answers and direction for his financial and mental situation.

“My wife puts her hand on me.” Casey said. “I'm crying and thinking, God, please just take this from me…I felt relief and anxiety leave my body. I felt like things were changing and I just felt a sense of change coming over me.”

Casey and Jen participated in a churchwide 21-day fast that encouraged them to start tithing.

We talked together about how we really need to start tithing.” Jen stated. “We were tithing here and there with our church, but that's when we made the decision to tithe the full 10% no matter what.” Casey expressed, “I don't know how it all really worked, but we never missed a payment on our bills. We were never behind, and we continued to make our tithes and I couldn't really tell you how that happened…it was a miracle.”

Casey sensed the Lord was telling him to sell their home to pay off their debts. They put their house on the market and an offer came in $53,000 over the asking price. It was the exact number they needed to pay off all their debts.

“I can't explain.” Casey said. “I mean, other than he had all the details worked out ahead of time.”

Today, the couple is debt free. Casey has received a promotion and a 20% raise. Casey and Jen are still faithfully tithing and trusting God every step of the way.

“Tithing was the solution to turning over the keys to my finances and the keys to my life.” Casey spoke. “He knows what to do with your finances and He knows what to do with your heart.” “He doesn't want our money.” Jen said. “He wants us and He wants our tithing to come from our hearts.”

Holocaust Happening in Front of Our Eyes

Bella explained, “I said it right away, ‘This is the Holocaust. Why do people who endured the Holocaust have to go through the same thing in a country we founded and where we were so happy? How did the Holocaust happen again right in front of our eyes?’”

Bella Haim, 86, immigrated to Israel from Poland at a young age after she and her family survived the war. She rebuilt her life in southern Israel. But on oct. 7th, while Israel came under a brutal attack, Bella’s grandson, Yotam, was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists and was later killed when he tried to escape.

“I didn’t believe that a thing like this could happen in Israel,” said Bella. “I didn’t believe after so many years of wars that we stayed through and witnessed the development of one of the most beautiful regions of the country. But all of this, in a matter of hours, it all disappeared.”

Bella has found solace at the Neve Eshkol Association for the Elderly, an organization supported by CBN Israel. The center lost 9 people on Oct. 7th and was forced to close for months when the area was declared a military zone. Yulia, one of the directors of the center, knew that reopening as soon as possible would help speed the healing process for both members and staff alike.

Yulia said, “We are all in trauma. And it will take a long time to go through that. Being here, opening this place, connecting with the people, this is our way to deal with trauma.”

Thanks to you, CBN Israel works with the center to ensure that members receive a hot meal every day in addition to the support they need including home visits, various therapies, workshops, tours and lectures. The staff also receives psychological support in order to be able to help people like Bella.

Anat, one staff member at the center said, “We are here to give people their lives back. We help the elderly people in Eshkol build resilience. This place gives them a reason to keep living and a reason to come back.”

Thanks to your help, Neve Eshkol has become a beacon of hope in a war-torn region of Israel. And these traumatized citizens of Israel can begin to find healing.

Anat said, “It’s so appreciated. And thank you very much for doing all this.”

Bella explained, “I said to myself, ‘What am I going to do now?’ And here I find the answer. I go to activities with Michael. I exercise with Laura. I am keeping my brain active. When I arrive here, I forget everything. I’m active, I’m busy. We will return, all the people who are refugees in our own country will return. And here in Neve Eshkol, we will hear music again and we will dance again. I am Bella Haim. I choose life. And I thank everyone who tells our story, my story, and who helps us get up every morning with a new song. The people of Israel live!”
