A British woman convicted of attempting to smuggle drugs out of Peru found Christ in her prison cell, the UK's Daily Mail reports.

Michaella McCollum Connolly was jailed after getting caught trying to smuggle £1.5 million of cocaine from Peru to Spain.

After serving more than two years in a harsh Peruvian prison, 23 year-old McCollum Connolly has reportedly left her life in the drug world behind for a new life devoted to Christ.

She now spends her time on probation working for Fr. Sean Walsh in Lima, the capital.

"Michaella did her time with dignity, took her lumps and now she's ready to start life fresh," Fr. Walsh said. "Michaella is an intelligent and gifted young lady, she just did something dumb, now she can get on with the rest of her life.

"I'm not sure she was a staunch Catholic before I met her, but I really think she did come to the Lord, at least in her conversations with me, she indicated that" he added.

Fr. Walsh says Mchollum Connolly "will be on parole for another 50 months," but she is on the right track to transforming her life.
