Terrorist groups like al Qaeda and ISIS have repeatedly threatened to attack Americans and American interests around the world. Most experts believe it's not a matter of if, but when an attack happens.

In the wake of the San Bernardino shooting and the Paris terrorist incident a few weeks back, a heightened sense of fear is understandable.

Security professionals say there are practical things you can do to reduce the risk of an attack and increase your chances of survival if one happens.
